Health – Covid 19 and our pets. I had the pleasure of speaking with Veterinarian Dr. Samantha Saunders about COVID 19. Dr. Saunders is PETA’S Corona Virus Researcher and she also has her doctorate in Corona Virology. I learned about the theory of how the COVID – 19 pandemics began. It seems to be linked to wet markets, bats and Pangolins. We spoke about whether or not our pets, including cats, dogs and companion animals can transfer the virus to us or to them. Watch the interview. It’s filled with great information.
Can Animals Contract the Corona Virus from Humans?
It appears that there are only a handful of animals, mostly felines, have contracted the Corona Virus. Although it is very rare and should not be something we concern ourselves with greatly. The chances are very small that many animals will contract the virus.
Can Humans Contract the Corona Virus from Animals?
We should treat our pets the same way we treat humans as far as safety. If your pet is outside alot with people and is not being distanced from others, they could potentially have their coat contaminated. It’s a surface like any other. So if someone with the virus wiped their eyes, then pet your dog, the droplets could be on the dogs coat. You then pet the dog and are putting yourself at risk. So, make sure to always keep hygiene at the highest possible level and find a local carpet cleaning service. However, if your pet is at home with you in isolation, then they post little risk, same as you.
Can we Sleep in the Same Bed with Our Pets
If you pet is in isolation with you and being surrounded by people who are following the rules, then it should not pose an issue.
